Does anybody have suggestions for places to visit in Montana?

I'd like to take a road trip from California to Montana and I'm wondering what places I should be sure to visit. I'm looking for peace and quiet and serenity. Is it possible to stay on a ranch somewhere and ride horses? Any good hiking? Rafting? Camping? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
